Integrated Business and Engineering - Software Innovation (IBE-SI)

The Center for Software Innovation worked with the Fisher College of Business and College of Engineering to expand the Software Innovation track within the Integrated Business and Engineering program (IBE-SI) to equip students to lead the world’s digital future and providing enhanced experiences through internships, seminars and experiential learning to continue to position the Ohio and the Midwest as the hub for software innovation. Through this expanded honors program, College of Business majors can now earn a minor in Computer Science and College of Engineering majors can earn a business minor.

Intro to Software Startups (CSE 5889)

This class, beginning Spring 2025, equips students with practical skills for working at, building, or launching new software ventures, covering topics like problem definition, solution design, software architectures, and integrating AI. In addition to technical topics, the class will touch upon business essentials such as fundraising, intellectual property, and growth strategies, with real-world insights from case studies and industry experts.

Offering and Format: This is a 3cr class in Spring 2025. Semester-long course featuring readings, invited talks, discussions, guided networking sessions, and a course project. This class is intended to be a resource for tech / engineering students, but is also accessible to non-technical students.

Prereqs: This class assumes you have a technical background, ideally computer science, and are interested in exploring entrepreneurship. You should have taken an introduction to programming OR intro to data analysis or database systems (CSE 1224, 1223, 2111, 3241), OR approval from instructor.

Kyiv School of Economics Partnership

The Center for Software Innovation will implement an agreement between Ohio State and the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) to collaborate on research and share knowledge to support educational efforts. This partnership will provide new opportunities for students and faculty from both universities to exchange experience and opportunities, including through collaborative research and innovation; visiting faculty and scholar programs; joint workshops and symposia on topics of mutual interest; teaching materials and other scientific and technological literature; and more.
