James Toney

Senior Lecturer, Department of Engineering Education

Dr. James Toney is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Education, where he teaches first-year engineering. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and SPIE, and a member of ASEE.

Toney's research interests are in electro-optic device modeling and design, and application of photonics to electric field measurement. He has previously held R& D positions at SRICO, Inc., Penn State Electro-Optics Center, and Battelle. He is the author of two textbooks, Lithium Niobate Photonics and MATLAB Programming for Engineering Applications. At OSU his focus is on curriculum development for teaching basic software design. He earned a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Carnegie Mellon University, M.S. in Physics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
